Our Plenary Session
Miranda and Michael will discuss the research that underpins their new book, Leadership for School Transformation. In this rare presentation, the founders of 4CTL will explain why they’ve written this book, what it explores, the research foundations behind the book’s content, and why transformative leaders are needed now, more than ever.
Dr Miranda Jefferson and Professor Michael Anderson
Our Elective Sessions
Rebekah Palmer
ABR Researcher & Practitioner. Artistic Academic - Sessional, University of Sydney
Finding the frame: how creativity can be a courageous way to imagine and enact new ways of knowing and being.
In this one-hour workshop, Rebekah shares her research on creativity and creative self-efficacy, exploring how established frameworks can be platforms for emergent and new ways of knowing and being.
This session will offer participants the opportunity to ‘create, make and do’ creativity to form and build identity; examine held understandings; and come to new ways of knowing. Participants will find a frame that reifies their understanding and builds courage and wisdom.
Dr Sue Orlovich
Teacher and Researcher, University of Sydney. Teacher, Western Sydney University
Opening the Black Box: Mapping Your School's Professional Learning Ecology
What actually makes 4Cs learning genuinely embed in a school - and what quietly holds it back? This workshop draws on Sue’s doctoral research to help school teams look beyond professional learning inputs and examine the living ecology of their own site.
Using a collaborative mapping activity, participants explore the seven interdependent practices - Sharing, Weaving, Reflecting, Trusting, Sense-making, Inquiring, and Democratising - that enable Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Critical Reflection to flourish across classrooms and within school settings. Uncover where these practices are already taking seed and thriving, where the conditions are ripe for growth, and how to tend and nurture them across the unique ecology of your school.
Dr Vasiliki Papaefstathiou
Associate Lecturer, English Literacy Education K-12, Western Sydney University.
Thinking in Verse: Creative Approaches to Teaching Critical Reflection
How can critical reflection be reimagined as an agentic, creative capability in schools - and what does this look like in practice? In this workshop, Vasiliki draws on her PhD research using transformative learning frameworks and arts-based approaches to explore how critical reflection can be conceptualised and taught using poetry.
Participants will engage in a two-part activity featuring the 4Cs coherence maker, the critical reflection crucible, and use poetry to unlock the creative potential of critical reflection.
