An Introduction To Leading School Transformation
What is this workshop?
Empowered Teaching & Leading Through the 4Cs is a 3-day introductory and practical workshop course about empowering and transforming schools through the development of agency in learning and leading, enabled by 4C capabilities: Creativity, Critical Reflection, Communication and Collaboration.
The 4Cs approach is responsive to the challenges and opportunities schools and their students face and dedicated to applying the most relevant research to support schools as they meet the emerging needs of students, staff and their communities.
Workshop content will be built from the research of our organisation’s founders, Professor Michael Anderson (University of Sydney, 4CTL Director) and Dr Miranda Jefferson (4CTL Director).

This workshop will provide your school leaders with tangible and actionable goals and strategies to begin or continue change in their schools. The practical strategies unpacked in the workshop will be responsive to your school’s context, needs and aspirations.
Who is 4CTL?
4C Transformative Learning (4CTL) is an organisation that works in long-term professional learning partnerships with a network of schools across Australia and internationally. Our Practice Leaders are highly skilled in delivering engaging, embodied and practical professional learning, and are dedicated to their own life-long learning and skills development. The research and practice that underpins the work of 4CTL is detailed in Michael and Miranda’s books, Transforming Education: Reimagining Learning, Pedagogy and Curriculum (2021) and Transforming Schools: Creativity, Critical Reflection, Communication, Collaboration (2017).
Who is this workshop for?
Principals, executive leadership and leading teachers interested in being introduced to practical, research based, deep professional learning that builds leadership, learning capacity and agency in schools.

What will we cover in the workshop?
Day 1: Leading School Transformation: a capability approach
· Is school transformation possible?
· What is a capability approach to school transformation?
· How does communication create agency for transformation? Exploring and applying the Communication Crystal coherence maker to your context.
Day 2: Transformation: Action and agency
· What is 4C transformation? Stories from leaders of 4CTL partnership schools.
· What are the dispositions for leader and learner agency?
· What is your priority focus and how do you start? Mini action inquiry: Driving question
Day 3: Immersive School Experience in a 4CTL partnership school (conducted in term 4, location TBC)
· What can 4C learning look like in action? Collaborative classroom visits
· Collaborative reflections and learning from school mini action inquiries
