School leadership
in the 21st Century

requires more skill, commitment and growth

than ever before.

We know great school leadership doesn’t just happen.

It’s intentional.

It’s vision-driven.

It’s born out of each leader’s commitment, experimentation, courage and growth.

We also know these are hard qualities to develop, and even harder to maintain amid the challenges and shifting sands of the education landscape.

We believe high quality leadership is pivotal to ensuring that education meets the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s students. That’s why we’re committed to nurturing, supporting, evolving and deepening leadership capabilities in educational leaders. Our 4CTL Leadership Pathways are designed to take educators at all levels, across sectors, from leadership beginners to advanced leadership experts.

Based on the research and writing of Dr Miranda Jefferson and Professor Michael Anderson, these Pathways are long-term, deep learning journeys, free from the mirages of silver bullets and quick fixes.

Transformational school leadership capability starts with great classroom leadership, is built up through deep middle leader skill development, and sustained through supported commitment to continuous personal and professional growth in senior leaders, and, in the long-term, strong, wise, effective leaders emerge, who leader their leaders into sustainable transformation.

We hope you’ll join us on our Leadership Pathways journey.

A four stage leadership development pathway

LEADERSHIP 1

Leading in the Classroom

Explore Concepts Of Leadership

We believe everyone has capacity for leadership in their role. In Leadership 1, we explore what leadership is, understanding yourself as a leader, how to bring your leadership into the classroom and how to begin enabling leadership in students.

Go Deep with the 4Cs

The 4Cs are the foundational capabilities for successful leadership. But while they may seems simple, our approach to Creativity, Communication, Collaboration and Critical Reflection involves a deeper engagement and embodiment of these capabilities. We’ll deep dive into each one, building participant skills in building these into pedagogy, explicitly and implicitly.

Begin Working with the Learning Disposition Wheel

The Learning Disposition Wheel is an essential tool for classroom leadership. We’ll introduce the wheel, explore the 9 dispositions in detail, and use it as a tool for understanding ourselves as learners as well as leaders. We’ll begin developing ways to introduce it in classrooms to help students with metacognition, agency and wellbeing.
